Fat Drinks

 

Latte’s are awesome, we can’t deny that, but sometimes they can leave us a cracked out or crashed out.

Caffeine is a powerful medicine, so powerful that our bodies can’t always process and metabolize it at a reasonable rate.

Enter the Bullet Proof method. This method is popular in keto diets - a diet that is high in fats. We call them Fat Drinks.

When we drink straight caffeine, especially in coffee form, our bodies often can’t metabolize the intake of caffeine at a steady rate. The result is a spike in energy, followed by a crash.

By adding good fats to our coffees, we provide our bodies with the stabilization it needs to metabolize that caffeine at a steady rate, allowing for a longer lasting supply of energy. The good fats also nourish our bodies, provide us with essential amino acids, and can curb hunger and encourage healthier eating habits…not to mention they amp up the deliciousness of our coffee / morning beverage game.

Below are a few of my favorite Fat Drink Variations..

Bullet-Proof Coffee

These amounts are guesstimates - I practice intuitive cooking / latte making. Play with using different amounts of each ingredient and find out what you like best!

  • 16 oz Fair Trade, Organic Coffee / Espresso. We usually make our coffee in a French Press. For cold brew, you can use an overnight cold brew coffee maker. (link)

  • 2 tbs Pasture-Raised Ghee

  • 1 tbs Pasture-Raised Collagen (optional)

  • 1 tbs Coconut or MCT Oil (optional)

  • 4 oz homemade cashew or almond milk / packaged unsweetened almond milk

  • 3 tsp cinnamon

  • 2 tsp ginger

  • 1/2 tsp cardamom

  • 2 tsp maple syrup

  • 1 tbs Liver & Kidney Love Adaptogen Blend (optional)

Dirty Cacao Latte

  • All of the above ingredients

  • 3 tbs of fair trade organic cacao powder

  • Dash of cayenne

  • Extra tsp of maple syrup

Dirty Rasa Latte

  • All of the ingredients in Bullet-Proof Coffee

  • Add 6 oz of Rasa

By adding adaptogens, whether it is the Liver & Kidney Love Blend (found in this post), or Rasa Koffee (or both!), you give your body even more tools for energy stabilization. Adaptogens allow your body to keep energy and stress levels stabilized throughout your busy day.

You can make all of the above drinks without coffee as well. Just add more of the main ingredient (i.e. cacao / Rasa…)

Matcha Latte

In a Vitamix, blend…

  • 1 tsp ceremonial grade Matcha. We use (link)

  • 8 oz hot water

  • 2 tbs soaked cashews

  • 1/2 tsp organic vanilla extract

  • 1 tbs maple syrup or raw local honey

  • 1 tbs ghee / MCT oil / collagen
